Seriti, Footprints foundation and P&G give out sanitary towels in Alexandra Township
On Thursday Seriti Institute and its social partner, Footprints Foundation gave away over two hundred packs of sanitary towels to young girls at Londani Lushaka Centre in Alexander township. The towels were sponsored by P&G as part of their “Always in School” campaign.
Each girl received six months’ worth of sanitary towels and masks. Those in grade 12 also received physical science and English study guides.
Footprints Foundation CEO, Eric Mlambo says distribution of sanitary towels has been challenging recently because schools are closed due to the lockdown, it has become harder to reach the girls.
“I think this is the time we should be reaching out more to give relief to learners. Their parents are not working, there’s no income and the (local) shops are not opened.,” says Mlambo.
Kasi Digani from P&G says distributing sanitary towels should not stop during a pandemic because the girls’ needs do not stop. She says it’s important to meet girl’s menstruation needs and education needs despite the lockdown.
Londani Lushaka is an NGO that provides aftercare, youth development, HIV support and trauma support services to children and young people in Alexander. Currently during lockdown, they provide food to over 600 children daily. Seriti recently adopted the organisation as part of its, Seriti PARTNER programme, which is a platform to strengthen social partners (CBOs, NGOs, NPOs, CPAs and social enterprises). Through Seriti PARTNER, Seriti will provide technical support to Londani Lushaka in the areas of project management, marketing, communications, operations and administration.
“It’s very important for us to support organisations that have the kind of impact in communities that Londani Lushaka has,” says Simon Leshoai, programmes manager at Seriti.
Mavis Rathogwa, the director of Londani Lushaka says they are grateful for their partnership with Seriti as it has already yielded many fruits.
