Seriti’s aRe Bapaleng programme raises awareness of children’s rights.

Seriti Institute, a non-profit development facilitation agency and public benefit organisation, supports empowering communities and capacities parents and caregivers of young children.
Seriti acknowledges the Child Protection Week commemoration from May 28th to June 4th. ‘Let us Protect Children during Covid-19 and Beyond.’ While this is an annual event, our aRe Bapaleng programme serves as a daily reminder of our shared duty to protect children and foster a safe environment for their well-being, growth, and overall development.
Child Protection Week - 2023

The aRe Bapaleng programme provides parents and caregivers with knowledge, skills, materials, and a learning-through-play approach to strengthen child-caregiver relationships, creating a safe environment and building stable and responsive relationships. We aim to empower communities to take ownership of child protection and create lasting change through partnerships, community engagement, and innovative programmes.

Child protection requires a collaborative approach from all sectors of society. Through aRe Bapaleng, Seriti encourages parents and caregivers to raise awareness and share information about child protection issues in their communities. We advocate that parents and caregivers model the behaviour they want to see in the world and be the parents and caregivers the next generation needs. We recognise that protecting children’s rights requires addressing systemic issues, empowering families, and building community resilience. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders, advocating for policy reforms, and strengthening the ECD ecosystem, we aim to create a society where every child feels safe, loved, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We invite our communities, individuals, organisations, and government bodies to take the issue of child protection seriously this week and beyond, joining us in your own way to make a difference in the lives of South African children. Together, we can create a future where every child thrives in a safe environment and their rights are protected.

Seriti is hosting our Annual Partner Networking Event on 7 June 2023. Live insights from the event, covering various aspects of childhood development, will be posted to Twitter @SeritiInstitute.
