This Women’s Month, Seriti Institute is proud to shine a light on the remarkable journey of the Bogolo bja Basadi Primary Cooperative, a women-led farming enterprise in Ga-Madiba, Mokopane. When the Social Employment Fund (SEF) Phase 3 programme wrapped up in April 2025, it marked not an end, but a powerful new beginning for a group of six determined women farmers.
As SEF Phase 3 has come to an end, we reflect on the work achieved across communities—from food gardens and early learning centres to local infrastructure and enterprise support. Thousands of participants contributed to meaningful work while gaining skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose. This phase created real impact and laid a strong foundation for future opportunities. As we move forward, we remain focused on supporting transitions, growing local initiatives, and building lasting change.
Dikeledi Morathwang (31), from Ganalaagte in the North West, is a shining example of how persistence, passion, and the right opportunity can transform one’s life. Once unemployed and uncertain about her future, Dikeledi’s path to success was shaped by her commitment to learning, self-improvement, and the doors opened by the National Youth Service (NYS), a programme managed by the NYDA and implemented by Seriti Institute (NPC).
Phase 3 of the National Youth Service saw over 2,000 young South Africans contribute to early learning, digital innovation, sustainability, and community upliftment.
Deelpan’s Multifunctional Agri-Node farmers have delivered their first harvest of lettuce heads to the local Spar supermarket in Sannieshof, keeping shelves stocked and satisfying growing local demand with quality produce straight from the field.
