Seriti Institute, in collaboration with Breathe Cities and the City of Johannesburg, undertook a pivotal initiative to define a Clean Air Zone in Johannesburg. Engaging over 3 000 participants, the project explored community perceptions of air quality, health impacts, and the importance of a contextualised, Afrocentric approach to defining a Clean Air Zone. These conversations revealed a critical lack of awareness and accessible information regarding air quality, its sources, consequences, and potential solutions.
To better understand the air quality challenges facing Johannesburg and uncover practical solutions, Seriti Institute conducted a community centered analysis. By grounding our findings in the lived experiences of Johannesburg residents, we ensure that our recommendations are both relevant and responsive to community needs.
