The Jala Peo project, managed by JET education services, encourages learners to develop an interest in agriculture.
Seriti has expanded the project by encouraging children to start their own gardens at home.
Learners follow a “learning by doing approach” where they are encouraged to create homestead gardens to practice what they have learnt in the classrooms.
This includes parents and caregivers and creates an awareness around the importance of food security and nutrition.
The interaction between learners, their parents and other elders from the community introduces learners to the culture of valuing the land, growing and harvesting crops.
