The DGMT Multi-Functional Agri-Nodes Expansion project, led by the Seriti Institute and funded by DGMT, supports agroecological development across four hubs in Bela-Bela, Standerton, Deelpan, and Inchanga. These Multi-Functional Agri-Nodes (MFANs) serve as centres for sustainable food production, enterprise development, training, and community resilience. The project focuses on empowering small-scale producers and local CBOs/NPOs through practical support, agroecological training, and improved market access.

The project aims to strengthen local food systems by equipping MFANs with tools, infrastructure, and training for sustainable agriculture.

It supports small-scale producers and CBOs with agricultural inputs, business development, and incubation. It promotes environmentally friendly practices such as composting and climate-smart farming. It also builds the capacity of at least 12 CBOs/NPOs through mentorship, training, and funding to replicate the MFAN model in their communities.

By June 2025, four MFANs are operational, supporting over 200 small-scale producers. More than 150 farmers have been trained, and seven CBOs/NPOs have received funding and mentorship. Thus far, the project has improved household food production, market access, and community engagement in sustainable agriculture.
